Chanting is a meditative practice that links you with a centuries-old tradition and expands your experience of yoga.
At Agama we teach ‘vedic chanting’, a rigorous practice whose principles and rules are transmitted in the traditional way – a student guided by a teacher who is trained in the classical tradition. All the chants we teach are healing chants – the focus in our tradition is on yogic practices for health and healing.
We also teach a small number of special ‘smrti chants’, that are not from the vedas (the body of knowledge that vedic chants come from), and shorter ‘mantras’ that you can easily use in your practice.

CHANT SERIES DATES
We run group classes every couple of months. A series of 1¼ hour-long classes running over 4 weeks, so you can really learn the chants – practise, revise and sustain what you’ve learnt.
Put the 2021 dates in your diary now, so you can block out the time:

THE CHANTS
If you have any requests for chants you’d like to learn, or revise, or want to know which chants will be taught in each series, please call or email Fiona Hardie

PRIVATE CLASSES
We can also arrange times to suit you. To introduce you to chanting, refine your practice, or build your repertoire of chants.
If you’re new to vedic chanting, before you join a group class, you might like to take a short (1 hour) Introduction to Chanting class. Learn about the notation (we use only 3 notes), the basics of pronunciation (we’re chanting in Sanskrit), and get a feel for the practice.

Cost: Group classes: $30 per class (1¼ hours) or $25 a class if you book the series ($100). Private Classes with Fiona: $60 per hour.
Payment is preferred by bank transfer.
The Timetable page has āgamā-s bank details.
Bookings are essential:  Minimum of 5 students required.
