Celebrating life’s transitions

I have always been grateful for the role that yoga has played in my life - the structure the teachings have offered throughout my mid 20s and early 30s, the invitation to connect with deeper layers of myself, as well as a beautiful network of other likeminded people through Agama Yoga Centre. The ability to share this through teaching for more than eight years has also been an absolute privilege. Now that I am pregnant with my first child, I have found myself even more grateful for this incredible ancient practice.
While my personal practice has always incorporated breath and self-reflection, asana (physical postures) are what continued to bring me to the mat each day. The exploration of breath within the movement and stillness of each posture, and the way it would make my body, breath and mind feel.
As I make this major transition in my life, and my body grows another tiny soul which we’ll soon welcome into our lives (and turn them upside down I’m sure), my practice and attitudes towards how my practice should look have shifted dramatically and in ways I never thought would work for me.
With the support of Denise Duprat, my practice has shifted to focus so much more on the breath, Vedic chant to invoke the blossoming of a little flower (mantra puspam) which is traditionally used during pregnancy, and more reflection and meditation.
Although I have always known the yogic teachings to be profound, I am now privileged enough to experience their depth in a completely new way. I’m in awe of how gracefully the teachings lend themselves to supporting this major moment of change and transition in my life, and how they have effortlessly continued to function as a source of stability while I venture through the passage of pregnancy toward motherhood.
