Celebrating AYC’s Yoga Teacher Training Graduates

On March 26, ten new yoga teachers graduated at AYC under Barb’s care. This will be her final YTT course as she will hand the baton to an inspiring and experienced network of teacher trainers to continue AYC’s legacy

AYC was established in 1989, many yoga teachers have been trained during this time locally, nationally and internationally. Our most recent graduates were lucky enough to receive a congratulatory message from our extended sanga in Sweden who trained under Barb in the 90s!

Our most recent group graduated on Sunday 26th March 2023.

Over the past two years ten very enthusiastic trainees have been guided by a brilliant team of Yoga Trainers who will continue these trainings into the future, led by Jill Harris KYO Yoga, Ocean Grove.

Jill Harris, Fiona Hardie, Dani Pritchard, Tanya Neate and Denise Duprat have all contributed to the graduate’s yoga studies over the 2 years. It was especially vital to have all team members supporting trainees during Covid and enforced distanced learning, offering a variety of online resources and classes.

It was inspiring to witness the maturation of this sanga, working together under difficult circumstances and making the best of every opportunity to come together for extra experiences. These include many vedic chant series and several special series designed to apply yoga tools from gross to subtle. This eagerness and enthusiasm made it a pleasure to be with the sanga each month for 2 days of immersion.

The trainees were able to come to any class on the timetable over the 2 years as part of their training. Many came 2 and 3 times per week, so on a weekly basis, the teachers at AYC became an extra ‘couching team’ spending time after class to answer questions and engage with the trainees. The teacher training process comes alive with this broad variety of group classes and unique teaching approaches. This, coupled with a monthly check-in for mentorship and review of home practice, kept the student-teacher relationship fresh and consistently growing.

After all of this study and practice how do you ‘become’ a teacher who knows the steps to take each student from their starting point towards their goal? You must be able to inspire an unshakeable conviction that your students can take these steps. This is the next chapter for a graduate - ‘becoming’ a yoga teacher with a conviction that continually guides you toward practices that lead to harmony of body mind and spirit.
